The securuty chief flings herself out into hard vacuum along with the message buoy, though, because I don't remember why.)Ī repair/recovery team is sent to the Ishimura onboard the USG Kellion. The other last message from the Ishimura is from the security chief of the ship, who was able to record a message because necromorphs refuse to get too close to the Marker, which isn't really borne out in either Dead Space or Dead Space 2. (*This includes Isaac Clarke's girlfriend Nicole, who sends one of the very last messages from the Ishimura, wherein she commits suicide on vid and sends it to him. Necromorphs happen! Everyone dies!* (Dead Space: Downfall takes place around here along with Dead Space: Extraction) The Ishimura gets the Red Marker onboard. The USG Ishimura shows up to planetcrack, but also to spirit away the Marker because the Unitologist Church knew it was there and put people in place on the ship (I'm fuzzy on the order of events here, actually, because the mining of Aegis VII was off-the-books, making it look like it was done specifically to recover the Marker, but the mining involved setting up the colony and the colony didn't know about the Marker until it found it). People on the colony start losing their minds, but nothing too serious. Later, a CEC mining colony is established in order to ready the planet for planetcrack (orbit-assisted stripmining where a planetcracker-class ship, using gravity tethers, picks up a giant chunk of the planet like God's own sodcutter) and discovers the Red Marker. They, I guess for the LOLZ, shock (FTL) to a random, not-yet-discovered planet, and bury the Red Marker there. It then beamed instructions for replicating itself into the head, or possibly notes, of a guy and allowed itself to be sunk beneath the waves.įastforward an indeterminate amount of time and either EarthGov or the Church of Unitology or Patkin's Highly Placed EarthGov Unitologists have created at least one more Marker, this one called the Red Marker because it's got a red glow to it. It beamed creepy thoughts into everyone's heads that were near it and caused, directly or through it's mere presence, a necromorph outbreak in its vicinity because, hey, Dead Space tie-in needs necromorphs. Okay, two-hundred-some years ago various folks found the Black Marker.
